Give Toward the Work of God’s Kingdom
Tithing is not a modern invention or a voluntary fundraising practice. In Scripture, God commands His people to give as part of covenant faithfulness and worship. The tithe—the giving of the first ten percent—belongs to the LORD and is appointed for the support of His house and those who labor in His service.
“The tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD” (Leviticus 27:30).
“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house…” (Malachi 3:10).
Supporting the Ministry of the Gospel
Scripture consistently teaches that God’s people are to support those who devote themselves to preaching, teaching, and shepherding the Church.
“'You shall not muzzle an ox when it treads out the grain,' and, 'The laborer deserves his wages'” (1 Timothy 5:18).
“The Lord commanded that those who proclaim the gospel should get their living by the gospel” (1 Corinthians 9:14).
Your giving sustains worship, sacramental ministry, teaching, and the proclamation of the Gospel.
A Command Joined with Trust
God does not merely command the tithe—He attaches a promise to it:
“Bring the full tithe into the storehouse… and thereby put me to the test, says the LORD of hosts, if I will not open the
windows of heaven for you and pour down for you a blessing until there is no more need” (Malachi 3:10).
This is the only place in Scripture where God explicitly invites His people to test Him—by giving faithfully and watching Him provide abundantly.
A Cheerful and Willing Heart
While tithing is commanded, God desires that His people give freely, joyfully, and without compulsion:
“Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver” (2 Corinthians 9:7).
Obedience and joy are not opposed. Faithful giving is both an act of submission and an expression of trust.
